FAQ’S (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Why do we have to buy both Accident Medical
and General Liability coverages?
A: It is a requirement of the General Liability
carrier, Capitol Specialty Insurance Companies, that Accident Medical coverage
be in place.
Q: Who are covered participants?
A: Covered participants are the player(s),
coach(es) and manager(s) of a team, league or association for whom which premium
has been received.
Q: What is Excess Accident Medical Coverage?
A: This means that the policy pays after any
other insurance is payable. If no other insurance is available (Group,
Individual, Auto) this policy becomes primary and pays the claims after the
deductible has been satisfied. Also if there is other coverage this plan would pay out of pocket
expenses like deductibles and co-insurance.
Q: Is travel in my personal auto covered under
the Accident Medical or General Liability policies?
A: There is coverage under the Accident Medical
Policy, on an Excess basis, when traveling to or from a sponsored activity.
There is no coverage under the General Liability Policy.
Q: Who pays the claims?
A: Accident Medical claims are paid by Capitol Indemnity Insurance
Company and the General Liability claims are paid by Capitol
Specialty Insurance Company.
Q: How are participants
added to or deleted from these plans?
A: The insurance companies have assumed in
their pricing that the number of participants shown on the application will
remain constant throughout the policy term. No additional premium or refunds
will be made during the policy term.
Q: Is this coverage just for the season or for
a full year?
A:
Coverage will be written under the Master Policy (except Tackle Football). All premiums paid are
considered fully earned premium. The Master Policy is Effective January 1
and Terminates the following January 1.
Q: Why are we required to pay for Accident
Medical insurance when most players have medical coverage through their parents?
A: The Accident Medical coverage is written on a mandatory basis as a
requirement of the General Liability insurance company.
Q: Will we receive a copy of the Policies.
A: No. Each team, league or association will receive a Certificate of
Insurance (includes policy numbers, coverage outline and effective dates of
coverage), along with a Schedule of Benefits.
Q: Does the General Liability Insurance provide
coverage for facilities that we may use or rent?
A: Yes. If the facility requires to be named as
an additional insured, coverage can be added upon written request. Additional
Insured Certificates will cost $35.00.
Q: How often do I pay the premiums?
A: Premium is paid once a year at initial
enrollment.
Q: Why do we need this type of coverage?
A: In today's litigious society, every
organization is vulnerable to lawsuits. Accident Medical Insurance provides
valuable protection for the participant. General Liability Insurance is
generally required when using playing fields, so this important coverage
allows your organization to comply with those requirements, while also
protecting the organization from possible litigation. For more
